James Russell has more than 10 years experience in private equity focused on energy and environmental businesses. Prior to joining Braemar, Mr. Russell helped form Tamar Energy, a UK company building anaerobic digestion plants. Prior to Tamar Energy, Mr. Russell worked for Jacob Rothschild’s Family Office in London on direct opportunities in the energy and environmental sector. Prior to that, Mr. Russell was a Senior Director of The Clinton Climate Initiative (“CCI”) where he focused on transactions in energy efficiency in commercial real estate, waste management and forestry. Before joining CCI, Mr. Russell was one of the early employees at Climate Change Capital (“CCC”), the first boutique investment bank focused on the European commercial opportunities around Climate Change. At CCC, Mr. Russell worked on several funds including the first Venture Capital Trust to invest in renewable energy projects in the UK and the first private equity funds raised to invest in carbon credits and their underlying projects. Mr. Russell’s activities were focused on land fill gas and HFC-23 destruction projects in China. Mr. Russell began his career at McKinsey & Co., working in London, New York and Palo Alto.
Mr. Russell serves on the advisory board of Berkeley Energy and 3Degrees. He currently serves on the boards of Tamar Energy, 5th Tier Technologies and The Bedford Estate. Mr. Russell has a BA from Harvard University and an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
