Voxel8 is one of several 3-D printing startups striking deals with sneaker makers

The venture-capital unit of Dutch conglomerate Royal DSM NV thinks the future of 3-D printing is afoot.

DSM Venturing, the company’s VC arm, led an investment in Voxel8 Inc., a Somerville, Mass.-based startup developing printers to make the top portions of sneakers, known as uppers. HP Inc.’s venture unit also invested, along with returning investors Braemar Venture Partners and Arch Venture Partners.
